Where are the palm reading lines?
Hold one hand open, palm facing you and fingers pointing up. Start just below the fingers, then move down towards the wrist. Not every palm has four distinct lines, and the shapes in this diagram will not match every hand.
- Heart line: the upper crease below the fingers, usually running from the little-finger side towards the index or middle finger.
- Head line: a line across the middle of the palm. It may begin near the life line and run straight or slope down.
- Life line: the curve around the fleshy base of the thumb, rather than a line straight down the centre.
- Fate line: a more vertical line towards the middle finger. Some hands have no obvious example.
What do the four lines mean?
These are common associations in palmistry, not scientifically established facts about a person. Different traditions can interpret the same hand differently.

A curved line is sometimes read as emotional openness, a straighter one as a more reserved style. Neither proves how someone loves. Try asking: how do I communicate care?

Thinking and decisions
Readers may associate a straight line with practicality and a sloping line with imagination. It cannot measure intelligence. Ask: when do I rely on structure, and when on intuition?
Life line
Change and personal rhythm
Its arc is traditionally linked with vitality and life experience. Its length does not reveal lifespan or health. Ask: what helps me feel grounded during change?
Fate line
Direction and outside influences
Some traditions connect this line with work or life direction. A faint or missing line does not mean failure or a lack of purpose. Ask: which choices feel like my own?
How to try your first palm reading
- Choose one hand. Use the same hand throughout your first reading so you can keep track of what you notice.
- Locate, then describe. Find a line using the map. Describe its curve or direction before attaching a meaning.
- Leave uncertainty alone. If creases overlap or a line is faint, do not force a match.
- Choose one reflection. Use a traditional association as a question, not a verdict.
- Check it against your experience. Keep what is useful and leave what does not fit.
An example, not a prediction
“My head line slopes down” is an observation. “Where could I make more room for imagination?” is a reflection. “I am destined to be an artist” is not something the line establishes.

There is no single rule shared by all traditions. Some compare the dominant and non-dominant hands. For learning line positions, start with whichever hand is easier to see clearly.
What if I cannot find my fate line?
That is not a sign of bad luck. Palm creases vary, and not every hand fits the traditional diagram.
Can a palm reading tell my future?
